[attr="class","likedotitle2"]FROM THE JOURNALS OF MATTHEW AARON SANCTUM
[attr="class","likedoinfo"]...The year is 2035.
35 years past the conclusion of World War III, and 35 years after they had taken control. For centuries, an expansive organization focused upon the genetic engineering and general progression of humankind had converged beneath the surface; maintaining their own identities within the common and naked eye, all while dedicating themselves to the art of experimenting. Various types of experimenting, mind you. Something far worse. Far painful. Far scarring than most other things imagined.
They call themselves 'The Phenomenon'.
We, the people-... Formerly of the United States. Formerly of the United States, and presently of the Republics of Serenity and Solace, like to add a little extra 'flare' to their name. They call themselves 'The Phenomenon' for their own, self proclaimed...'righteousness' and 'progressive' phenomenons that they carry out. ...The experiments that they conduct on those victims; both Phenomenon born, and wrongfully abducted from the streets. Those same victims that're undoubtedly like you and I both. We spice it up with a simple word addition. The common folk nowadays like to call them 'The Chaotic Phenomenon'. Y'know.
...Because chaotic is all they've ever been for us, and chaos is all they'll ever put us through.
We don't know how what specifically they've been doing this whole time. ...Hell, I don't even know the origins of the group from before I became a member, and I used to be a renowned Elite~. Heh... But anyways. Rumor has it that the past few leaders have been of the same family; sons of their fathers, and so on and so forth. World War III already seems like a dream ago, but word on the street is that they were the ones who triggered it all. They're powerful enough to take over. ...Influential enough to manipulate the countries behind the scenes without being caught beforehand. Now...I personally hate them for multiple reasons.
But damn me if I don't find what they've accomplished impressive enough.
Impression can only go so far, though. Impression won't change what they've done. Impression won't change the amount of people that they've killed, ruined, and are torturing to this day with their own efforts. They claim that their efforts are for the bettering of humanity. That...they're aiding us in quicker evolution. That those who are unable to survive what they have in store for their 'progressive evolution' are better off dead anyways.
...And so they take us. They take us from our homes. From our families. They've taken our families from us. Given us nothing but chaos, and offered us nothing but fear and anxiety as their soldiers patrol the streets in search of us. The runaways looking for freedom. The runaways who'd want nothing else than to live the simple lives taken from us once more- even if for just a simple day or two.
They've even managed to turn some of our own family and friends against us, and it's those same people that're sometimes sent after their own flesh and blood in the name of the Phenomenon. Family is pit against family... Friends against friends. It's painful to say the least.
And that's why I'm willing to fight for our freedom. Our freedom.
The Phenomenon treats us as test subjects for their experiments. They treat us as their own, little pawns, and their guinea pigs, among other things.
...Like Hell and I gonna let that go on without a fight of my own, though.
The Revolution is my home, and the home to any runaways that ever find themselves wanting to seek refuge from the Phenomenon and their influences. It's been my home since I personally deserted the Phenomenon about seven years in the past, and since then, I've managed to befriend a number of people. ...I've even managed to find my brother again, and it's alongside him that I lead the Revolution. We live beneath the streets of Serenity and Solace alike; a hidden, underground community open to the runaways who find themselves wanting a change for the first time in ages. We've seen better days, but at the same time, we're doing better than when we've first started. In contrast from when we first began with few members, and limited supplies, we have skilled scavengers supplying the cause as possible- even if it's actually pretty easy to do that nowadays.
After all, the people have seemed to back us up more and more as we've grown.
It's admirable, and I really do appreciate it.
The Phenomenon knows that, too. ...And we all know that they all have the power to mow us down, but...they also know that the people can already only take so much. The instances of forced entries on owned property have gone down, thankfully. Still happens occasionally, but...for sake of keeping the relative peace that we've finally managed to rebuild, they seem more intent on leaving us alone for the most part. Citizens are less fearful of walking around. Runaways are capable of visiting establishments, and using facilities as they always would've been able to prior to the war.
They don't really bother us unless we're on our own, or when they're on the lookout for specific runaways.
...Nowadays, at least.
So for now, we're safe. For now, we just need to be careful not to draw much attention to ourselves. Careful not to be a nuisance to the others. For now, things are...somewhat peaceful.
But we'll still choose to fight in the long run. We aren't pigs cast to the slaughter. We aren't pawns to be moved at will.
Altered or not; Experimentals or not. We are still human. We are still intelligent, and we are still the ones who can determine our own fates.
The Revolution is named as such for a reason. For now, we're making do with the peace.
There will come a day when we take the fight to them, though.
...When we're ready. In time.
